Appenzeller cimbalom:
Since one year I play the Appenzeller Hackbrett, which has a truely oriental sound. I use it for my NOMMI program and for playing solo concerts with melodies from various countries.
The hackbrett is made of pinewood and ahorn/maple wood. It sounds like the Iranian santur, buth with a European maqam. Mainly due to the thin bronze strings and the sharp angles of the trapezium. It weighs only 7 kg and reaches 3 octaves.
