Klezmer: Trio Vilde Katshke

For five years I was a substitute at klezmertrio Vilde Katshke. Since 2010 we have this line-up. We mostly play at religious places, weddings, private parties and folk music events. Storytelling (about any event or subject) and music are combined in an inspiring way. Also we use our instrument to create sounds within the stories. In december we had a dvd recording. For a list of our gigs, see: www.wilde-eendproducties.nl

Gottfrid van Eck - clarinet, storyteller, bass clarinet, birbine, soprano sax

Tessa Zoutendijk - violin, viola, trumpet violin, cello

Pit Hermans - cimbalom, cello

My Klezmer History

I started playing klezmer in 1998. From 2002-2009 the old line-up of Di Fidl Kapelye played a marvellous seven years of authentic string klezmer music. We had concerts, workshops and gatherings at all kind of events in various countries. We played in The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, France, Poland, the United States and Canada. One of its most memorable gigs was a concert in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam in february 2009, with our special guest Stuart Brotman, from California. (Brave Old World, Veretski Pass).

Regularly I was a guest cimbalist at other bands such as Trio Ctotdederde in 2010 and the Shtetl Band Amsterdam in 2009, the band of bass player Gregor Schaefer and violinist Bert Vos. In 2007-2008 I was part of Queen Esther Klezmer Trio, the band of German-British klarinettist Emma Stiman. We played at various venues in Germany. In 2004 klezmer cimbalom colleague Roger Reed wrote about me in a review: "As a tsimbler I was interested to hear Pit Hermans and was enchanted. She has her own sound and touch, moving effortlessly among the patterns and chords, fills, echos, and leads. She also pulled off one of those intense Moskowitz solo tunes - again, not like Moskowitz, but in her own distinct style." Tsimbler Roger Reid (USA), DIFK at New York 2004, Klezmershack
