I play sandouri (cimbalom in fact) and tzouras (small bouzouki) in various formations. On the sandouri I mix the style of Moschos and Kalaintzis with Rumanian and gipsy influences

Ensemble Meraklides
In this band I play cimbalom and tzouras (6 string bouzouki). We play rebetika, laika, nisiotika, smyrniaka and sometimes our own songs. Main members are Alexandros Kyrkos on guitar and voice, singer Katerina Georgopoulou and me. We have a possible extra line-up of percussion. Sometimes we accompany Greek dance groups or cooperate with an oriental dancer. We can also play as a duo.
Greek music I play mainly on the Rumanian small cimbalom. The Greek cimbalom is called sandouri, and is mainly used in the island music nisiotika and the orientally sounding smyrniaka from around Smyrna (Izmir). Also I play Greek songs on the Swiss Appenzeller Hackbrett (see NOMMI project). To study Greek music, autumn 2010 I visited Athens and Chania, Crete with my violin. On the big cimbalom one played Greek music until the 1930's and in the US until the 50's. Now the big cimbalom is fashionable again in the Greek music scene.
